Membership Benefits
The Rose City Thunderbirds were founded in 1972, by Ed & Kay Taylor and Len & Dorothy Jacobsen of Portland, Oregon. The club received CTCI (Classic Thunderbird Club International) Chapter Charter #51 in 1974. The club has gone through several growth spurts and even some slumps over the years. It now has over 87 families in its membership.
The Rose City Thunderbird Club has hosted 5 conventions for CTCI: Regional conventions in 1981, 1989 and 2003 as well as International conventions in 1986 and 1996.
Our Club has been well represented in CTCI. Three of our members have served on the CTCI Board of Directors each serving as CTCI Vice President and President. The current CTCI Secretary is also a member of our club. Recently the club made a major donation to CTCI to help buy a building, as a result CTCI is no longer paying rent.
The club is active locally in the Northwest Car Collectors Association. The NWCCA sponsors a car show and swap meet each October. A share of the proceeds from that event goes to the Portland Police Sunshine Division. The club also directly supports the Sunshine Division. On occasion the club has also supported needy families at Christmas, either directly or through an organization. The club has monthly events throughout the year, ranging from business meetings to car tours, to game nights to progressive dinners and tech sessions.
The Rose City Thunderbirds are Chapter #51 of the Classic Thunderbird Club International (CTCI). We are all owners and/or admirers of the original 1955, 1956 and 1957 Ford Thunderbird. We meet monthly for socials, tours, picnics, tech sessions and fun.
